Internet Connection How To Speed Up Your?

I will release a guide for linux shortly, but if your already running linux you probably know how anyway

DNS – which stands for domain name system – servers take that URL you enter, and compare it to a database of registered names and matching IP addresses.

Internet Connection How To Speed UpWhen a match is found, your browser is forwarded to the matching IP address. The DNS server you use is frequently decided upon by your ISP (internet service provider).

But sometimes the default DNS servers that people are assigned are slow and inferior. The extra time it takes to find a matching IP address means extra time to load a webpage.

That’s why Open DNS exists. Open DNS is a DNS server available for free. Its uses are many, including the ability to filter out specific websites and categories of websites, and to speed up your internet connection, if only by a small margin.

Your wireless router can be set to work with Open DNS, and Open DNS will work with any device connected to the router, regardless of software or operating system.

Setting up Open DNS on your router is a fairly straight forward process. Just follow these steps:Setting up Open DNS on your router

1. Login to your router control panel. You can usually do this by navigating to 192.168.0.1 in your browser, or 192.168.1.1. If neither of these works, check online to find out how to access your specific router.

2. Type in your password. If you do not know your password, then you probably did not set one. If you did not set one, then the password is probably the routers default.

3. After you are logged in, find the area in your control panel containing the IP address of your current DNS server.

4. Note the address or addresses already there, and write them down, in case you want to restore them later.

5. Replace the existing IP address with ‘208.67.222.222’ or ‘208.67.220.220’ – these are the IP addresses of the OpenDNS servers. You can use just one, or both if there is a field for an alternate DNS server.

That is all there is to it. If you want to expand your features, you can create an account on the Open DNS website and follow the instructions, but this is all you have to do to get your router working with Open DNS.
