When your computer becomes slow, you will get very frustrated. This is because of the time you will have to wait for it to respond to the command that you have given it to perform. There are steps you can use to restore the speed of your computer though it will be important to have a back up of all your important documents, games, songs, pictures, and videos in your hard disk.

Step 1: Remove viruses, spyware and unnecessary programs

Spyware will always collect information whenever you are online and build marketing profiles. Some of the profiles will contribute to the changes in the configuration settings of your computer, making it slow. When you have anti-virus spyware and software, you will be able to eliminate programs that will slow down your computer. You can remove all the unnecessary programs that are eating up the space in your hard drive form the control panel.

Step 2: Removing temporary internet files and cookies

Cookie has information on your surfing habits. When you remove them from your computer, you will be able to improve the speed of your computer. You can remove the cookies using Internet Explorer and clicking Tools>Internet Options. This will allow you to remove cookies and temporary internet files.

Step 3: Making your recycle bin empty

You should always be in the habit of making sure that your recycle bin is empty. This you can do weekly and you will be able to have enough hard drive space.

Step 4: Limiting the programs that load at start up

When you reboot and notice that your computer is sluggish, it might mean that many programs are loading. You can take care of the problem by managing the programs that will run whenever you reboot using “Windows Defender”.

Step 5: Hard drive defragmentation

When you defragment your hard drive regularly, you will be able to access your files much faster. This is because the process will help in cleaning your hard drive. The software is always present with Windows thus you will not have to look for it.

Step 6: Add memory

When you have games, videos, photos, and software in your computer in plenty, you will need to add random access memory (RAM). You can confirm the RAM your computer can accommodate using your owner’s manual. With enough RAM, you will be able to have a fast computer.

Step 7: Constantly install updates

Microsoft will occasionally release updates. The update will help in ensuring that your system is more secure and operates efficiently. The same updates will have an impact on your computer drivers and thus the reason why you should not neglect them. When you are having these updates, you will be sure of a computer that is up to speed.
